Position Purpose

The Emergency Department Medical Trauma Technician Expert (EDMTTE) functions as a technician within established competencies and scope of practice, supply aide, and unit clerk to support in the day-to-day operations of the Emergency Department (ED). The EDTE works under the direct supervision of a Emergency Department physician, and ED medical director, in collaboration with a registered nurse.

When functioning as a technician, the EDMTTE will be asked to perform various technical procedures in the ED.

When functioning as a supply aide, the EDMTTE is responsible to stock the ED with the required supplies, equipment, and instrumentation to ensure safe, effective patient care.

When functioning as a unit clerk, the EDMTTE is responsible to perform clerical duties, act as unit receptionist, coordinate unit/patient schedules and activities, efficiently use the computer and telephone, and maintain an orderly and efficient nurses station. The EDMTTE will interface with all guests, visitors, families and patients arriving into, or calling the ED. The incumbent provides directions and information as well as making appropriate referrals.

Nature and Scope

As a member of the ED team, the EDMTTE provides technical skills and communicates effectively with supervisors, other ED staff, physicians, and ancillary staff.

The demands on this position are very dynamic due to rapid changes in medical procedures, technical knowledge, instrumentation, equipment, and policies and procedures. This position ensures that equipment is working properly before ED procedures, cares for equipment after procedure, and is responsible for reporting equipment that is not working properly or is broken. The position will also be responsible for transporting telemetry patients as well as receiving report from field emergency medical personnel. Patient Care will include: physical assessments with documentation, BLS, ACLS, PALS, performs phlebotomy, inserts peripheral IV access, medication administration, and any skills within established competencies and scope of practice as approved by Renown Health.

Other related duties and flexible hours may be requested. This position has the freedom to rotate work areas and duties as needed and/or directed.

The EDMTTE must demonstrate the knowledge and skills within established competencies and scope of practice as approved by Renown Health necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient population served and meet standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standards.

4. Ability to take direction from professional staff.

5. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills within established competencies and scope of practice as approved by Renown Health necessary to provide care, based on physical, motor/sensory, psychosocial and safety appropriate to the age of the patients served

6. Demonstrates UC and computer skills after appropriate orientation.

This position does provide patient care.

Description

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English.

Experience:

Six months Paramedic experience preferred; six months Advanced EMT experience preferred; one year of experience as an emergency department technician preferred.

License(s):

Paramedic License

Certification(s):

Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada and Nationally Registered Paramedic licensure through the National Registry of EMT. Obtain and maintain BLS certification by the American Heart Association (AHA) standards required. Obtain and maintain ACLS certification by the AHA within 6 months. Obtain and maintain PALS certification by the AHA within 6 months. Obtain and maintain ITLS certification within 6 months.

Computer / Typing:

Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
